Karna was very powerful but Bhisma was ultimate warrior who defeated lord Parshurama,
( it was tie…..because Parshurama is immortal….he can't be killed …. And Bhishma had boon of ichha mrityu so he also can't be killed….the fight was stopped just because the use of these weapons could destroy entire earth.. Parshurama was lord vishnu himself. He was disciple of Lord Shiva himself. He held Vijaya bow, he held Saranga bow , he held Pinaka bow…he held his Parshu ( axe ) so He can't be defeated by any human. Parshurama had All the devine weapons he himself was Guru of Bhishma….and Bhishma didn't get any weapon from any other God . all his weapons were given to him by Parshurama himself. Only Parshurama and Indrjeet ( son of Ravan ) had all three weapons of trinity…Pashupatastra of Shiva, Vaishnavastra of Vishnu , and Brahmadand of Brahma . So Parshurama was not inferior to Bhishma…at all.
Karna got all the weapons from Parshurama including Bhargavastra which was invention of Lord Parshurama himself ( Parshurama didn't gave knowledge of this weopn to Bhishma and Drona ) and Vijaya bow of Lord Shiva himself. Karna was also immortal with his Kavach and Kundala. Karna had advantage of Vijaya bow of lord Shiva…so he can't be defeated…when he wield it. )
