You want to cancel out units when you do the conversion. You want to have m on top and s on the bottom.

1000m = 1km

1 hr = 3600s

so set your conversion up like this:

18km/1hr * 1000m/1km * 1hr/3600s

If you notice, you aren’t changing anything about 18km/hr because you are simply multiplying by 1 and then 1 again.

Multiply the first two fractions. km cancels out because it is in both the numerator and denominator.

This gives you:

18000m/1hr * 1hr/3600s

Multiply again and you get:

18000m/3600s

This reduces down to 5 m/s.
