☆ ANSWER ☆:-
A plane mirror, however, doesn't change the angular spread of your line of sight. That is, what you see in the mirror is the same patch of road you'd see if you were looking straight down the road through a window the same size as the mirror. If you're some distance away from the mirror, you only see a little patch of the road.
A convex mirror, however, spreads out your line of sight, allowing you to see a much wider angle through the mirror, even from some distance away. Depending on the position of the mirror and its curvature, such a mirror can show you traffic coming in one or both perpendicular directions well before you reach the intersection, giving you time to act accordingly.
