Bihar is a historical state located on the Eastern side of India. It was formed at the very beginning of the 20th century i.e. 22nd March 1912. Patna is the capital of Bihar. It is the third most populated state in the country after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra with a population of 83 million people. It is spread across an area of 94,163 Km sq.

The majority of the Bihari population resides in rural areas and pursue farming as their occupation. The other occupations include certain industries like leather, textiles, oil refineries, and agriculture-based industries, etc.

The climate of Bihar is a moist sub-tropical climate. There is very cold weather in the winter, and the temperature comes down to 0 - 10 degrees while in summers, it reaches 45 degrees. The major crops include maize, rice, mustard, sugarcane, Barley, Gram, etc.

The culture of Bihar is a mixture of Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, and Tirhut cultures. There is not much difference between the culture of cities and villages. Even in cities, people follow traditional customs and their beliefs are extremely conservative. The society in Bihar is male-dominated and the women are kept under restrictions. The primary festivals celebrated are Makar Sankranti, Saraswati Pooja, Holi, Durga Pooja, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath Pooja especially have their special significance.

The delicacies of Bihar include Litti Chokha, Thekua, Khaja, Dalpuri, Malpua, Sattu, Dalpuri, Makhana Kheer, etc.

Due to its vast size, it has 243 seats in its legislative assembly and 40 in the Lok Sabha elections.

Overall, Bihar is a vast state with resources and talent but it has not been adequately utilized in order to establish it as a developed state. Its resources must be addressed adequately by establishing proper educational institutions, industries, and focus on the tertiary sector which is the major cause of its backwardness and migration.
