Given :- Bina had two pieces of coloured paper measuring 45 cm and 80 cm. What is the size of the largest square piece that can be cut out of both the pieces without wasting paper ?

Solution :-

We know that, in order to find the greatest factor of numbers we need to find the HCF of given numbers .

so, for largest square piece that can be cut out of both the pieces without wasting paper we need to find the HCF of dimensions of coloured paper .

then, prime factors of 45 and 80 are :-

→ 45 = 3 * 5 * 5

→ 80 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 5

therefore,

→ HCF = 5 .

hence, the size of the largest square piece that can be cut out of both the pieces without wasting paper will be 5 cm of length .
