An accident nearly ruined her all so perfect life when on May, 1981, she lost her to a car crash at just the age of 16. Her leg was dangerously gangrenous, so she survived and became the famous Bharatnatyam dancer with her prosthetic foot.

Her first film was Mayuri in Tamil which became Naache Mayuri in Hindi, a biography of her life, starring herself.
