Rammohan Roy was a pioneer of social and religious reform in India .He was born in an orthodox Brahman family in Bengal in 1772 .

Raja Ram mohanroy is called the father of indian Renaissance. He demonstrated against various social evils like sati,untouchability, child marriage, widows remarriage etc.
He also was against the idol worship and to propagate his thoughts he wrote books like 'Gift of monotheist ' and 'precept of jesus'.
He learned many languages like perssian,sanskrut,latin,urdu.In order to advocate education he found the vedanta college.
He opposed the evil zamindari system and tried to influence his opinions through journals and news paper.He advocated freedom of press,euality,liberty.
