Answer:

Osmosis is important for the cells for many reasons. It helps in the movement of important materials inside and out of the cell. The nutrients, water and other solutes move in and out of the cell by the process of osmosis.

\bf{\underline{\underline{\purple{Biological\: Importance\:of\:Osmosis}}}}

The growth of plants and animals depends largely on the phenomenon of osmosis plants and animals bodies are composed of very large number of microscopic units called cells. Cell contains a fluid and its wall is composed of a living cytoplasmic membrane which is semi permeable and is responsible for the phenomenon of osmosis in living organisms.

\sf\small{\underline{Process\:regulated\:by\:osmosis\:in\:plants\:and\:animals\::-}}

  • Plants absorb water from the soil through their roots due to osmosis because the concentration of cell sap inside root hair cells is higher than that of water present in the soil

  • Water assimilated by the plants moves into the body of the plants and reaches even to the top of a tall tree due to osmosis

  • In animals water moves into different parts of the body under the effect of the process of osmosis

  • Stretching of leaves , flowers etc. is also controlled by osmosis

  • Osmosis helps in rapid growth of the plants and germination of seeds

  • Different moments of plants such as opening and closing of flowers etc. are controlled by osmosis

  • Bursting of red blood cells when placed in water is also due to osmosis
