Mother Teresa was born on 26th August, 1910 in Albania which is in southeastern Europe. She was Albanian in ethnicity. Though she was from Albania, she had lived all her life in India. She had an Indian citizenship since she lived in India from 1948 to 1997. She was a Catholic nun as well as a Christian missionary. She belonged to the Catholic sect of Christianity. For her selfless work towards the poor of India, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in

1979 and the Bharat Ratna in 1980. Mother Teresa was beatified, that is, attributed as a "Saint by Pope John Paul II since she answered a woman's prayer to cure her brain tumour. She was titled the 'Blessed Teresa of Kolkata' since she worked hard to uplift the poor, especially women, of Kolkata in West Bengal.
