Answer:
Macronutrients (required in large quantities) and micronutrients (required in small quantities) affect the plant growth, vitality and productivity.
Macronutrients like carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are the structural units of plant cells. Macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sulphur, calcium, magnesium are involved in various metabolic activities of the plants like photosynthesis and synthesis of biomolecules like amino acids, proteins, vitamins, enzymes etc. The general vitality of the plants, its foliage, bloom, and fruit production is controlled by the macronutrients and they provide the green color to foliage. Macronutrients are highly necessary for growth and acclimation of the plants and enhance the development of both the roots and the foliage. The production of flowers, fruits, and grains are dependent on the macronutrients. They maintain the basic structures like the cell wall of the plants.
Micronutrients like chlorine, iron, boron, manganese, zinc, copper, and molybdenum are primarily required as a growth regulator and activator. They are necessary for the synthesis of chlorophyll, enzymes and other biomolecules, for the absorption of water and other macronutrients, enzymatic activation, and to regulate metabolic activities. Micronutrients also play a major role in pollination and fertilization.
