Energy is taken in as food in every living organism. Only energy stored as tissue is transferred when organisms are consumed in the food chain. So less energy and biomass is transferred between organisms at each stage of the food chain.

Biomass is a measure of the amount of food that is available. The biomass at each trophic level is less than the previous trophic level. So biomass decreases as we go up the pyramid of biomass. It is also known as the ecological pyramid, trophic pyramid, energy pyramid, eltonian pyramid or food pyramid.

The effect of plant growth regulator on biomass allocation of Salvia miltiorrhiza:

When a plant growth regulator, uniconazole is supplied to Salvia miltiorrhiza by means of foliar spraying it has an impact on the biomass allocation. The biomass ratio of the leaf and stem reduces while the biomass ratio of the root increases.
