"Avian Influenza or bird flu is caused due to the virus H5N1. Found mainly in waterfowl and domestic poultry, bird flu results in fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle aches and makes the body weak. Often bird flu affects humans as a result of consuming uncooked eggs and meat.
Consuming eggs and meat from infected birds without properly cooking them can result in the transmission of the virus from bird to man.
Contact with infected birds including their secretions can further lead to direct transmission of bird flu
