Birds are seasonal breeders but we get eggs from the poultry farms throughout the year. How do you explain this?

Answer:

Explanation:

Most breeds are not seasonal breeders so your question is irrelevant. Plus, breeding has nothing to do with egg production. Hens will lay even if they've never even seen a rooster. Some breeds might slow down a bit in the winter but generally speaking they lay year round. Hens will also slow down as they age. To a home chicken “farmer” that doesn't mean much, but for commercial egg production, hens are usually slaughtered at 1-2 years of age and young hens brought in.

Chickens were domesticated from the Red Jungle Fowl, a tropical bird. In the tropics there are two seasons; rainy season and dry season. None of the two seasons will affect the birds ability, physiologically, to lay eggs.

In temperate climates, the thing that affects chicken laying is their response to light intensity and duration and so they will reduce laying when the days start getting shorter and come to a point where they stop altogether.

In commercial settings lighting is regulated to give maximum laying amount.
