Explanation:

Preparation of bleaching powder CaO(Cl)_{2}.

It is prepared on a large scale by passing chlorine gas in calcium hydroxide.

Ca(OH)_{2} +(Cl)_{2} \rightarrow  CaO(Cl)_{2} + H_{2}O

It is also called chlorine of lime as it contains a large amount of chlorine gas in it.Due to the content of chlorine it has a odour of chlorine.

Bleaching powder is used in paper industry , used as disinfectant drinking water and used as oxidising agent.
