When a leaf is boiled in water which contains a bit alcohol.then, all the chlorophyll gets extracted. This process leads to bleaching of leaves.
Leaves to be tested for starch are first killed by boiling in water and then placed in the sodium hypochlorite solution and left until they are completely bleached. They are then washed in running water for 2 to 4 hours to remove this solution.
