'Blowin' in the Wind' will always remain special to me because that was the first Bob Dylan song I'd heard. Little did I know how much it'd change my perspective on life :)
I remember that was the day Dylan had won the Nobel Prize for literature. My father played this song to me and I also remember that I laughed because that man had the worst singing voice I've ever heard ;) And that too accompanied with a whiny harp!
My dad asked me if I liked the song, to which I replied that I really didn't understand it.
"He's asking more questions than answering them. And 'the answer's blowing in the Wind' is not a very plausible explanation!!"
Now that I'm older (and hopefully wiser) I really appreciate the lyrics. Perhaps they were written in the context of the Vietnam War? Or are the questions regarding the social problems of the 1960's, like civil rights? I really don't know. Anyways Dylan wrote the song in such a way that it's still relevant today, and perhaps always will be.
And now I still think that Bob doesn't have the best singing voice but it suits his style, you know. Plus I think the harmonica is beautiful too! Poetical pieces strung together in a simple, singable melody....what's not to love?
PS- I'd recommend you to also listen to the 'Joan Baez' and 'Peter, Paul and Mary' cover
Bonus:
"Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
And how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind"
Peace ✌️
