boat goes 96 km in upstream and returns back 32 km in downstream and takes 14 hours to complete the journey if the speed of boat in upstream is 8 km per hour then find the ratio of speed of boat in still water and speed of stream​

Speed of boat in upstream  = 8 km / hr

Speed of boat in upstream =  Speed of Boat in still water - stream speed

8 = B - Stream speed

=> Stream speed = B - 8 km /hr

Speed of boat Down stream = Speed of Boat in still water + stream speed

=>Speed of boat Down stream = B + (B - 8) = 2B - 8 km/Hr

Upstream Distance  = 96 km

Upstream speed = 8 km/hr

Upstream time = 96/8  = 12 hr

Total time = 14 hr

Down stream time = 14 - 12 = 2 Hrs

Down stream Distance = 32 km

Down stream speed = 32/2 = 16 km/hr

2B -  8 = 16

=> 2B = 24

=> B = 12 km/hr

Speed of Boat in still water = 12 km/hr

Speed of stream = 12  - 8 = 4 km/hr

ratio of speed of boat in still water and speed of stream = 12 : 4

= 3 : 1
