1. Animals get their food by the use of their body parts.
a. Valves and cilia – Clams use their valves to get food. Oyster use both valve and their cilia in their bodies. The food is drawn into their shell by water current together with the beating of cilia and the opening of valves.
b. Claws – Cats, tigers and lions use their claws in getting food. Cats catch mice by using their claws.
c. Tongue – cows and sheep place their lower jaw near the ground while grazing. They wrap their tongue around the grass and close their mouth.
d. Beaks and Bills – Owls, hawks, kingfishers and other birds use their beaks in getting food. The kingfishers with their powerful bills, perch on a tree branch near the water to catch fish. The pelicans use their large bills to catch fish. Other birds have small, short hard beaks for cracking nuts and seeds.
e. Tentacles- Squid and octopus use their tentacles to obtain food. A squid has ten tentacles while the octopus has eight. They also have beak like teeth used to bite and tear their prey into pieces.

a. Butterflies, bees and moths use the long fine sucking tubes of their mouths to sip nectar from flowers.
b. The whale’s big mouth open by the force of the animals, while in forward motion. Around 300 horny baleen plates hang down like curtains from the roof of the mouth.
c. Cray fishes have mouth parts that crush and bite food into small pieces.
d. Grasshoppers, beetles and termites have biting mouth parts that tear the food into small pieces before swallowing them.
