Bomb is fired horizontally with a velocity of 20 m\s from the top of the tower 60 m high . After how much time at what horizontal distance from the tower with the bomb strike the ground

SOLUTION.

We need to consider this question in two dimension one is along x axis and other is along y axis.

As you mentioned the initial velocity is horizontal hence initial velocity in y direction is zero but due to acceleration due to gravity final velocity in y direction is not zero.

When bomb hit the ground so displacement of bomb in y direction is 60m

If v be the final velocity then....

s = ut + (1/2)gt²

60 = 0 + (1/2) × 10 × t

TIME = 12sec.

In this time the bomb strike the ground.

So if we solve the equation for x axis than

s = ut + (1/2)gt²

s = ut as acceleration in x direction is zero

Initial velocity in x direction = 20

S = 20×12

Distance = 240m
