Article I of our Constitution lays out the duties and powers of the legislative branch. Article II lays out the duties and powers of the Executive branch. Built into these definitions is the system of “checks and balances”. It’s all in the Constitution.

The writers of the Constitution spent a lot of time & deliberation on defining the Legislative branch and delineating its powers as can be seen by the number of sections: 10. Not only that, but the Legislature is the first Article, which, IMO, gives it more importance.

The Executive branch got 4 sections and is the second article.

The Judicial is the third article.

3 equal, but separate branches.
