Superstition is a surrogate for missing understanding. If you don´t find scientific explanations because you are not able or the problem is to complicated, humans go the easier way, they just believe some pseudo explanations. Just remember the old greek explanations of sky, movements of stars, planets, sun, thunderstorms etc. They invented thunder gods and other mythic figures...

superstition means have a blind faith in the old myths even they are wrong
Still in few parts of India this is practiced especially followed by the people having conservative ideas and orthodox .
