A compound is said to be aromatic if :

It is planar

There is complete delocalisation of the π-electrons in the ring

It obeys Huckel Rule (4n + 2), i.e., it should have (4n + 2) π electrons in the ring, where n is an integer (n = 0, 1, 2, …)

The simplest example of an aromatic compound is benzene. Other examples include naphthalene, anthracene, phenanthrene etc. You will study about aromatic compounds and aromaticity in more detail in higher grades.
