Both in aerobic and anaerobic respiration Glucose is broken down to pyruvate. The fate of this compound depends on the presence of oxygen. If oxygen is present the pyruvate is converted into carbon dioxide, water and energy and in the absence of oxygen the pyruvate is either converted into alcohol, carbon dioxide and energy or Lactic acid and energy.

(a) How many pyruvate molecule/s is/are produced from one molecule of glucose?

(b) What is the number of carbon in a pyruvate molecule?

(c) How many carbon dioxide molecules are produced from each pyruvate molecule?

(d)How many molecule/s of lactate is/are generated from a single molecule of glucose?

(e)Explain why aerobic respiration produces more energy than anaerobic respiration?
