Fertilisation is a process in which male gamete and female gamete fuses together to form zygote.

Both male and female gametes are haploid and zygote is diploid.

There are two types of fertilisation :

Internal Fertilisation : Fusion takes place inside the female body.

Examples : Mammals including humans, etc.

External Fertilisation : Fusion takes place outside the female body.

Examples : Frog, fish, etc.

\Huge{\sf Fertilization \colon}

  • Organisms of the Class Pisces,Amphibia and Reptilia lay their eggs in some sort of a medium

  • The medium is water incase of amphibians

  • The male gametes fuse with the egg cell in the media,i.e,outside the female organisms' body

  • This type of fertilization is known as External Fertilization

  • There is a disadvantage though,as the gametes can be eaten away by other organisms

  • Improper development could be another problem,if the zygote isn't provided necessary conditions to hatch, then it would die
