Answer:

Mangalore receives more rainfall than Bangalore irrespective of the fact that they are at same latitude.

Explanation:

Due to the low pressure area (ITCZ) in the western Ganga plain region, the southwest winds are attracted towards the Indian subcontinent. These southwest monsoons divides into two branches : Arabian Sea branch & Bay of Bengal branch.

The southwest monsoon that comes under Arabian Sea branch flows towards three different branches. They are:

1). Towards western ghats.

2). Towards the coast north of Mumbai.

3). Towards the Saurashtra peninsula and Rann of Kachchh

When these winds flows towards western ghats will then lift up along the reliefs or slopes of mountains. When these winds hits the atmosphere, it results in rainfall. So the region in between the western ghats ( also called sahyadris) and western coastal plain receives more rainfall ranging between 250cm and 400cm. Mangalore is located in this region and hence it receives more rainfall.

After crossing the western ghats, these winds descends and get heated up. So this reduces the humidity in the winds. So winds cause little rainfall east of western ghats. Bangalore is located in this region and hence it receives less rainfall.

Hence Mangalore receives more rainfall when compared to Bangalore irrespective of the fact that they both are at same latitudes.

Answer:

Mangalore receives more rainfall than Bangalore, even though it is at the same latitude.

Explanation:

A cyclonic storm (ITCZ) over the western Ganga Plain region pulls southwesterly winds towards the Indian subcontinent. These southwest monsoons are divided into two branches, the Arabian Sea branch and the Bay of Bengal branch.

In the sub-branch of the Arabian Sea, the southwest monsoon flows into three different branches. they are:

1). To the Western Ghats.

2). Towards the north coast of Mumbai.

3). Towards Saurastra Peninsula and Kathiawar Run

As these winds flow towards the Western Ghats, they rise along the ridges and slopes of the mountains. When these winds hit the atmosphere, it causes rain. Thus, the region between the Western Ghats (also known as the Sahyadoris) and the West Coastal Plains receives more rainfall in the range of 250 cm to 400 cm. Mangaluru is located in this region, so rainfall is more.

After crossing the Western Ghats, these winds descend and warm up. Therefore, this reduces the humidity of the wind. So wind causes little rain in eastern Western Ghats. Bangalore is located in this region, so it has less rainfall.

Therefore, Mangalore receives more rainfall compared to Bangalore, despite both being at the same latitude.
