Pratap Singh I was the 13th King of Mewar. He was born to the Rajput King Udai Singh II and Queen Jaiwanta Bai who ruled over north western India (comprising of present-day Rajasthan). Pratap Singh I was fondly called Maharana Pratap by his subjects.

The Mughal emperor Akbar wanted Maharana Pratap to become a vassal, which he refused. The famous battle of Haldighati was fought between the Mughals and forces of Maharana Pratap in which the Rajputs were defeated. But, Maharana Pratap managed to escape. He died in the year 1597.
