In the very first stage,the glucose i. e. 6 carbon molecule breaks into pyruvare i. e. 3 carbon molecule in the cytoplasm .

After that they are broken down by three different pathways to release energy.

*In the absence of oxygen in yeast

*In the lack of oxygen in human muscles.

*In the presence of oxygen in mitochondria.
