Answer:

Agha Shahid Ali :

Agha Shahid Ali was the Kashmiri poet who has deep love for the pandits of Kashmir. His gregariousness had no limit. His 1997 collection, THE COUNTRY WITHOUT A POST OFFICE was his best composition that touched briefly on Kashmir . Ali used to follow the mock - casual almost prose of so much contemporary poetry. He even conceived of publishing a line like : ' Mad heart, be brave'.

He had the extraordinary ability to transmute the mundane into magical. He was very fond of company. He worked his way through poetry in all spheres of life. Shahid placed great store on authenticity and exact tide in cooking and would tolerate no deviation from traditional methods.

He wrote poetry on his recurrent dream in which all the Pandits had vanished from the Valley of Kashmir.

At a certain point, I lost track of you

You needed me. You needed to perfect me:

In your absence you polished me into the Enemy.

Your history gets in the way of my memory. I am everything you lost. Your perfect Enemy.

Your memory gets in the way of my memory...

There is nothing to forgive. You won't forgive me.

I hid my pain even from myself ; I revealed my pain only to myself.

There is nothing to forgive. You won't forgive me.

If only somehow you could have been mine, what would not have been possible in the world?

- Agha Shahid Ali.

He died on 8 December, 2001.

SOME EXCEPTIONAL WORKS IN POETRY OF AGHA SHAHID ALI :

[ The Prose Poem ]

I am writing to you from your far-off country.

Far even from us who live here. Where you no longer are.

Everyone carries his address in his pocket so that at least his body will reach home.

I want to ask the fortune-tellers: Did anything in his line of Fate reveal that the webs of his hands would be cut with a knife?

AHGA SHAHID ALI.....
