So Basically, respiration is a process by which living beings utilizes the food to get energy. it is an oxidation reaction. In this process CO2 is oxidised.Mitochondrion is the power house of the cell. The site of respiration and the energy released is stored in the form of ATP .ATP is stored in mitochondria and is released afterwards.

Manesika: um.. I actually wanted to ask about the breaking down of glucose, fermentation etc. etc. given in the intro...
Vaishnavi18: Breaking down of glucose into pyruvate happens in the cytoplasm. Glucose is broken down into pyruvic aacid. It is composed of 6 CO2 atoms, pyruvic acid is composed of 3 CO2 atoms. Got it?
Manesika: thnx :)
