The concept of generic prescription is widely accepted in various parts of the world. Nevertheless, it has failed to gain popularity in India due to factors such as nonavailability and distrust on the product quality. However, since 2012, the Government of West Bengal, India, has initiated exclusive generic drug outlets called “fair price medicine shop” (FPMS) inside the government hospital premises in a “public-private-partnership” model. This study was undertaken to evaluate the experience and attitude of patients who were consuming generic drugs purchased from these FPMS.

A generic medicine is the name given to medicines prepared by copying the original formula of a branded drug.

The biggest advantage of generic medicines is that the cost of such medicines is 5 to 10 times cheaper than the original drug but has almost the same benefits as branded drug.

Or we can say it

Generic medicines even though are a complete copy of the brand name medicine along with the same dosage, usage, side effects, risk, safety, strength and etc as the original brand drug are not safe to use.

It does not matter if they are a complete replica, no copy can be as good as the original.
