as we know that there are following groups

A(+/-)

B(+/-)

O(+/-)

AB (+/-)

So (a) could give blood only to (a )same with (B) but (O) could give blood to (A)

and (B)

And (AB) could take blood from both a and b

Conclusion

o is called universal donor because O could give blood to majority blood group

And Ab could take blood from majority blood group.

Blood group 'AB' is considered the universal recipient, as they have both A and B antigens on their red blood cells, and thus their body does not have antibodies against A or B antigen cells, so they can receive blood from any blood type.

Similarly, blood group 'O' have antibody against A and B antigen cells but they doesn't posses either of the Antigen. So they can give blood to any blood type. And hence, called Universal Donor.
