briefly describe the three heat zones in a precise manner
Answers
i. Torrid Zone- The mid-day sun is exactly overhead at least once a year on all latitudes in between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. These areas, therefore, receive maximum heat and are called the Torrid Zone.
ii. Temperate Zone- The mid-day sun never shines overhead on any latitude beyond the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. The angle of sun rays goes on decreasing towards the poles. As such, the areas bounded by the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic Circle in the northern hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn and Antarctic Circle in the southern hemisphere have moderate temperatures. These areas, therefore, are called temperate zones.
iii. Frigid Zone- Areas lying between the Arctic Circle and the North Pole in the Northern hemisphere and the Antarctic Circle and the South Pole in the Southern hemisphere are very cold. It is because here the sun does not rise much above the horizon. Therefore, its rays are always slanting and provide less heat. These areas, therefore, called Frigid zones.
Heat Zones of the Earth :-
The Earth is divided into three Heat Zones. The Frigid Zone, The Temperate Zone and The Torrid Zone. These are as follows.
1) The Frigid Zone :- It is divided into two sub-zones.
a) The North Frigid Zone :
It lies between the Arctic Circle 66.5 degrees North and the North Pole 90 degrees North. It covers 4.12 % of the Earth's surface.
b) The South Frigid Zone :
It lies between the Antarctic Circle 66.5 degrees South and the South Pole 90 degrees South. It covers 4.12 % of Earth's surface.
2) The Temperate Zone : It is also divided into two sub-zones.
a) The North Temperate Zone :
It lies between the Tropic of Cancer 23.5 degrees North and the Arctic Circle 66.5 degrees North. It covers 25.99 % of Earth's surface.
b) The South Temperate Zone :
It lies between the Tropic of Capricorn 23.5 degrees South and the Antarctic Circle 66.5 degrees South. It covers 25.99 % of Earth's surface.
3) The Torrid Zone :
It lies between the Tropic of Cancer 23.5 degrees North and the Tropic of Capricorn 23.5 degrees South. It covers 39.78 % of Earth's surface.
