The Cause of the March

The Dandi Salt March took place at Sabarmati Ashram on March 12th, 1930. The Dandi Salt March, led by Mahatma Gandhi, started because the government was controlling the making and selling of salt and everyone had to pay a salt tax. Gandhi and many other people thought that the salt tax was unfair to the people. The laws were so strict that if someone picked a handful of sea salt lying on the sand, they could be fined. So this is what Gandhi wanted to do, pick up salt from the seashores of Dandi and start the Civil Disobedience Satyagraha.
