THESE ARE THE MAIN FUNCTIONAL GROUPS FOR CARBON COMPOUNDS.

IN ANY CARBON COMPOUND, ANY OF THESE GROUPS REPLACE 1 OR MORE HYDROGEN.

THEY PROVIDE SPECIFIC CHEMICAL PROPERTIES TO THE CARBON COMPOUND IRRESPECTIVE OF LENGTH OF CARBON CHAIN.
