The partition of Bengal occured in the year 1905, announced by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon on 19 July.

The province of Bengal was divided in two parts :

(i) Eastern Bengal and Assam

(ii) second part consisted of Bengalis, Biharis and Oriyas.

CAUSES :

This partition was done because the population of Bengal was excessive and it wasn't easy to efficiently administrate the whole province.

But the real reason behind the partition of Bengal was to divide the Hindus and Muslims. The tactic of Britishers of Divide and Rule was the main reason behind this partition as was concluded by the Indian revolutionaries.

CONSEQUENCES :

● This Partition triggered radical nationalism. The Bengali Hindus weren't happy with their minority in the new provinces.

● Terrorism in Bengal in the name of religion.

● Indian National Congress was also embarrassed due to Partition of Bengal as it was losing its effective force.

● Demand for creation of seperate provinces for Hindus and Muslims.
