Occurring NaturallyMinerals must be found occurring naturally. Substances concocted in laboratories cannot be considered minerals because they don't exist in nature. InorganicMinerals are not organic, meaning they don't belong to any class of organic compounds. Organic compounds comprise substances such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats made by living things.

the characteristics of a mineral are as follows..
1.solid
2.formed by inorganic processes
3.naturally occurring
4.definite chemical composition
5.definite crystalline structure
if any rock has any 3 of these characteristics then it is said to be a mineral...bcoz many of the rocks may not have all these properties..
