The term 'yoga' is derived from a Sanskrit word 'Yuj' which means join or union. In fact, joining the individual self with the divine or universal spirit is called yoga. Patanjali: 'Checking the impulses of mind is Yoga. '

The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual's mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone

Not only does yoga build upon basic tenants of physical fitness, such as muscle strength, bone strength and flexibility, but it does so in a way that is developmentally appropriate, accessible, and non-competitive for students of diverse capacities.

The importance of yoga are:

  • Yoga attempts to stimulate the 'Kundalini' life energy at the base of the spine.
  • This will be accomplished through a combination of physical and mental activity.
  • The approaches include a variety of yoga stances called 'asanas,' which are meant to keep the body in good form.
  • To regulate the mind, practitioners practice breathing exercises ('pranayama') and meditation ('dhyana').
  • Yoga, on the other hand, aims to assist the individual in transcending the self and achieving enlightenment.
  • Yoga is a method of harmonizing the mind, body, and soul.
  • It combines physical and mental disciplines to create a peaceful body and mind, releasing stress and anxiety while keeping you relaxed.
  • It also improves body tone, flexibility, and physical strength. It boosts vigor, vitality, and breathing.
  • Although yoga appears to be only stretching, it has numerous health benefits for your body, including how you feel, looks, and move.
