"The dear departed" is a very well choosen title with irony and pun in the word "departed" . It highlights the satirical element of the play as 'the departed soul' is hardly 'dear' to any adult character of the play . In the first half of the play the word 'departed' refers to the grandfather's demise . In the next half 'the departed dear one' is shocked at the news of his own death and avaricious attitude of his daughters and sons in law . He then announces his decision to 'depart' from his daughters and start his life afresh . Hence no other title could have been  more appropriate than 'TheDearDeparted'
