Answer:

The only element of humor which could be brought out in this story was the concept of how irony would hit Nitya the leading character for not wanting to thank God for saving his life. Indeed, it was his parents who made the promise of thanking God for saving their sons life however the feeling of being ungrateful to God on part by Nitya is astonishing and funny in a way. He being selfish and standing up for himself takes the narrative to a rather liberal view, but by not being a  believer to a believer this would sound ironic and may generate humor too.

Explanation:

In the story Nitya by R.K Narayan, the theme is that of selfishness, belief, tradition, respect, connection, modernity, control and independence.

Answer:

Nitya is the story that is authored by R.K Narayan  with the main theme as control, respect and independence. When Nitya was born, his parents made a promise to God and time passed, they forget about the promise. Nitya won’t believe in all these things, but his parents do.

Nitya believes that the promise made by his parents is foolish and has no meaning. Nitya gives no importance to God for saving his life. His life is under the control of his parents, barber and priest. He is forced to shave his head. Nitya goes against the will of his parents and leaves the temple.
