This was in 1856 when British engineers, John and William Brunton, were overseeing the construction of the East India Railway Company Railroad from Karachi to Lahore, up near the Himalayas. The railway construction workers required ballast for the project had learnt of the Ancient ruins of Brahminadab nearby. It is at this point where railway workers came across large quantities of fired bricks and subsequently used it for ballast. Additionally, more bricks were discovered close to the village of Harappa, in present-day Pakistan, along river Ravi. The Bricks used by the railway workers to make ballast constructed 150 kilometres of railway. It should, however, be noted that these workers had come across the remains of the rich and ancient Indus Valley culture.
