According to Bryan S. Turner there are four forms of equality. They are:

1. Ontological claim that all humans are born equal.

2. Equality of opportunity where ability and effort are justly rewarded.

3. Equality of conditions where neither advantage or disadvantage should be inherited.

4. Equality of outcomes where the government introduces certain policies and practices which ensure that other things being equal, the representatives of particular groups are placed ahead of the members of other groups which are already successful.
