No it is not fair but then we do not now follow that rule of Buddha. We have forgotten what he taught and now we kill animals for food. We should think from an animal's view, think what if we were a hen and we were going to be killed for food. We should definitely not kill the animals.

No, its clearly not fair to kill an animal or a bird for food. Has God made these creatures to be eaten by a evolutioned and developed being. Gas has,surely, made these animals and birds to increase the beauty of nature and add their wonderful colours, voice, physcial and mental apperance.
But, do all know that Buddhist are non-vegetarian too. This is beacuse they cant kill animals and birds, but can eat meat of animals and birds killed by other people.
But, my own principle says, not to kill other creatures for fun and food.
