Budhan covers a distance of 19 km in 2 hours by cycling one fourth of the time and walking the rest.The next day he cycles(at the same speed a before) for half the time and walks the rest(at the same speed as before) and covers 26 km in 2 hours. The speed in which budan walks is

The speed in which budan walks is 6 km/hr

Explanation :

Let the speed of cycling = x km/hr

speed of walking = y km/hr

case-I

time of cycling = 2/4 = 0.5 hr

=> distance covered by cycling = 0.5x

time of walking = 2 - 0.5 = 1.5 hr

=> distance covered by walking = 1.5y

hence

0.5x + 1.5y = 19............eq1

case-II

time of cycling = 2/2 = 1 hr

=> distance covered by cycling = 1 *x = x

time of walking = 2 - 1 = 1 hr

=> distance covered by walking = 1*y = y

hence

x + y = 26............eq2

solving both eq1 and eq2 we get

x = 20 km/hr

y = 6 km/hr

Hence the speed in which budan walks is 6 km/hr
