Bulliform cells are present in the upper epidermis of grasses.

  • Bulliform cells are large, round or bubble-shaped epidermal cells occurring in monocots.
  • These cells are found on the upper surface of the leaves i.e., adaxial epidermal cells.
  • When the bulliform cells absorb water, they get turgid and the leaf surface get exposed.
  • In absence of water, the leaves curl inwards in order to minimise water loss due to transpiration.
