Power plants release the majority of sulfur dioxide and much of the nitrogen oxides when they burn fossil fuels, such as coal, to produceelectricity. In addition, the exhaust from cars, trucks, and buses releases nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide into the air. These pollutants cause acid rain.

I understand that its cheating to look up an answer during a test or quiz but maybe they had already answered the question and doesn't want to get the answer wrong or get a bad grade just in case.

That is true. Many of the chemicals that come form burning fossil fuels cause acid rain.
