Yes burning of fossil fuels causes air pollution because when we burn the Fossil fuels the smoke is released and when the smoke is released the smokes get mixed with the air and causes pollution.

Actually proper burning of fossil fuels won't cause air pollution. Improper burning of fuels causes such. for example..taking any two wheeler vehicle and studying about the performance criteria of the engine,one thing is clear that mileage provided by the engine is below 40 and this is due to improper combustion of fuel and due to this harmful gases as given out as exhausts and when the exhausts mixes with oxygen, it pollutes air.
