These gases can be dissolved in rainwater to form sulphuric and nitric acids. These will subsequently be deposited on soil and result in soil acidification, soil eutrophication and structural damage to soil minerals. The acid rain may reach the water resources and contaminate. Oil may end up in soil or water in raw form, for example during oil spills.
