Fossil fuels like coal and petroleum are huge reservoirs of carbon and its compounds mainly nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur and hydrogen. If the huge reservoirs of carbon present in fossil fuels are converted to carbon dioxide, then the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is going to increase leading to intense global warming.

Burning of fossil fuel results in global warming because when it is burnt it release high amount of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases in the atmosphere.
