Subject: Burning Crop Stubble Damaging Environment
Sir:
I am writing to your excellency to bring to your kind notice the issue of burning crop stubble by farmers in all the states. After harvesting paddy crop and wheat crop, farmers burn the stubble that causes not only air pollution and soil fertility loss, but poses serious threat to the life of men and animals.
Last week the stubble fire in a field at a village in Punjab got uncontrolled and killed many buffaloes and cows in a dairy farm. More and more famers are using this harmful practice. In spite of the Government’s ban, they take such liberties.
The Government should provide enough facilities to the farmers to convert the stubble into useful bakes of hay. The officers on duty must be on rounds to check burning of stubble. Strict action must be taken against those who do not adhere to rules and regulations. Our environment has already been polluted so much, the smoke caused by stubble burning deteriorates the situation.
I hope your excellency will look into the matter and take the needful measures.
Yours faithfully,
Parkash Malhotra
