                               chapter deep water

The author's effort to overcome his childhood phobia of the water is the subject of his book Deep Water. Since the age of four, the author has been afraid of the sea. His father took him to California at the beginning of the story. He goes to the shore, where a wave takes him under and over.

This passage is taken from William Douglas' book, "Men and Mountains." The author describes how he overcame an ingrained phobia of swimming over here. We discover that the author experiences a phobia of water as a result of two horrifying events. He is knocked down by a wave in the first one when he is four years old. Similar to the first, he is 11 in the second. He is nearly drowned after being thrown into the deep end of the pool by a bully. As a result of these terrifying encounters, he has a great fear of water. He does, however, put forth a lot of effort to get over it. Lastly, we discover the steps he takes to combat this phobia. Additionally, he succeeds in conquering the fear and teaches the rest of us a valuable lesson in perseverance and willpower.

Deep water sends the message that, as long as we work hard to achieve it, nothing is impossible in this world. In the short story "Deep Waters," the author describes how, with nothing but sheer effort and determination, he conquered his fear of the sea and learned to swim. Since his early years, he had grown to hate the water.
